Why it matters
Anyone can make it look good now.
A clean screen used to prove you could make the thing. Now it takes thirty seconds and a sentence. So a beautiful portfolio doesn't prove what it used to.
What's left is judgment: what you chose, what you rejected, and where AI earns its place. That's what hiring managers are listening for when they ask how you use AI.
It's an honest retrospective. Your Then & Now is labeled as how you'd run the project today. You never claim you used AI back then. You show how you think now.
How it works
Two sessions, one project, done properly.
Assess
We look at your portfolio together, pick the project with the most to gain, and map where AI would change the research, ideation, prototyping and testing.
You rework it
You write the then and the now with a simple template and worksheet. The original stays true. The now shows your thinking.
Review
We tighten the story until it's portfolio-ready, and you get written notes to keep.
What you leave with
A case study that shows how you think.
- A Then & Now sectionFor one case study: how you ran it, and how you'd run it today, clearly labeled.
- A short LinkedIn post templateSo the rework gets seen, not just saved.
- Notes for the rest of your bookWhat to carry into your other projects, in writing.
Before your first session
Bring the project, not a pitch.
- Your portfolio, as it is todayA link or a PDF. Whatever a hiring manager would see right now.
- Two or three projects you might reworkWe'll pick the one with the most to gain together.
- The messy stuff behind themSketches, research notes, early wireframes, the version you killed. The mess is where the story is.
- One or two roles you're aiming forA job posting is perfect, so the rework speaks to the people you want to hear from.
- One honest sentenceWhat you'd change if you did that project again.
Only bring what you're allowed to show. If a project is under NDA, we'll work from what's public or strip out the client details.

If I Had AI Then
Questions
Do I need to know AI tools?
No. We talk through where AI would fit in plain language. You don't need to have used any tool to do this well.
Isn't this faking AI experience?
No. It's labeled as a retrospective: how you'd run the project today. You never claim you used AI back then. That honesty is the point, because it shows your judgment.
Which project should I pick?
We pick it together in the first session. Usually it's the one with the most decisions in it, not the prettiest one.
Can I do my whole portfolio?
Yes. After your first project, each extra project is $195, with a 45-minute review and written notes.
I'm a student. Can I book this?
1:1 sessions aren't offered to students. Student Plus includes a monthly group If I Had AI Then clinic, so you get the same approach in a small group.
